"Between Fisheries and Bird Conservation: The Cormorant Conflict"

Abstract: Across Europe, there have been large increases in the numbers of Great Cormorants that have brought the protected birds into conflict with man through impact on inland fisheries and aquaculture. This note provides an overview of the conflict, an assessment of the effectiveness of the measures adopted to address the conflicts, including a pan European management plan, and recommendations for a management strategy to reduce the damages caused by cormorants to fisheries and aquaculture.
